I mainly shoot what the industry refers to as “lifestyle photography” which means that my goal is to capture your family honestly and candidly. I don’t do a lot of posing unless you specifically request it. That being said, when working with children I have found that a little creativity goes a long way. For example, I might invite your children to show me how high they can jump, or prompt them: “What does Mommy’s cheek smell like?” to encourage them to get closer to you. My goal is to create images that are both beautiful and real, and that represent the best of your family.
All you need to do is show up with an open heart and a relaxed attitude. The rest is on me, and I promise it will be easy (and often times hilarious). We will talk, walk, chat, and play. I will be warm, friendly and very engaged with your children. I will give you occasional directions, and I will also capture what is happening organically.
If we have scheduled an outdoor session and it is raining, snowing, or really cold, we can reschedule the session for a better time. (Overcast days are fine.) If we have scheduled an indoor session, we will likely go ahead as planned unless the roads are really bad.
This is always such a tricky question, because honestly, I just want you to wear what makes you feel good. If you or your children are wearing clothes or shoes that aren’t comfortable, it will show in the pictures. But if you’re really at a loss, I generally recommend you try to coordinate your outfits (perhaps in two complimentary colors such as blue and green, or rose and beige) without matching exactly. Personally, I also love fun accessories and lots of different textures.
Unlike most photographers, I do not sell prints. Here are the reasons why: I am a photographer because I love people and creating art, not because I want to run a printing studio. It’s just not my thing. I also trust that you will find quality places to print your photos so you can display them in your home or family albums. (I personally use and love mpix.com.) Finally, I want to save you money, so you’ll be able to spend your hard-earned dollars on a fantastic photographer instead of on prints.
Sometimes, yes! Shoot me an email to email@example.com and we can chat.
